Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A New Town resident was allegedly cheated of ₹18 lakh in a fraudulent share market investment scheme. Based on the complaint, Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police arrested Mainak Bagchi from Lake Town. The accused allegedly posed as part of a trading network and induced the complainant to invest in phases over a period of time.
According to police, the victim, Animesh, received a phone call in January offering high returns from share market trading. He was first added to a Telegram group and later sent a link to a platform that displayed trading activity. Believing the setup to be genuine, he transferred money in multiple installments. When he attempted to withdraw funds, he was asked to deposit additional amounts for the withdrawal process.
Realizing he was being defrauded, Animesh lodged a complaint with the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police. Following an investigation, the accused was tracked and arrested from Lake Town. Police are verifying the origin of the trading link, the identity of others involved in the scheme, and if similar complaints have been made by other individuals.
